The Business Registry Insights group have been running surveys and collecting business registry data for over two decades.

Background
The business registry survey started over 20 years ago. It began with a small number of registries in the European Commerce Registers’ Forum (now EBRA) who wanted to capture how different registries around Europe were operating. The output was a paper report that was printed and disseminated at conferences every year.
Over time, the survey grew to include registries from overseas, thanks to the support of CRF, IACA and ASORLAC.
In 2021, due to sustainability, a change in how users read information, and printing costs, the survey switched to a digital survey. Instead of producing paper reports, the group now publish interactive digital dashboards that are freely available to the public.
A new name
With the new digital survey came a new name. The survey was previously known as the International Business Registry Report, however this did not encapsulate the new digital means of delivering the data. In 2024, the working group decided to change the name to Business Registry Insights. In French, L’Observatoire Des Registres d’Enterprises and in Spanish, Observatorio de Registros Mercantiles.
The survey team
The survey working group is chaired by Ana del Valle. The group is made up of professionals from around the world who contribute their time. skills and expertise to create the surveys and share them with the world.
The group partipants are Christoph Labenski, Chiara Gaffuri, Helen Fletcher, Iñaki Vazquez, Julia Naedts, Kersti Rätsep, Ljubinka Slaveska, Martin Fidler Jones, Marissa N. Soto-Ortiz, Stephen Brandon and Ulrike Franz.
What topics do the surveys cover?
We run two surveys every year. The first survey always looks at Business Dynamics. That means we ask for information on the number of companies registered, newly incorporated, terminated, and other data points to assess the scale and operation of your register. We build on this data every year, so we can compare the data year-on-year and identify trends.
The second survey of the year focuses on a relevant topic for registries. Examples of recent topics include Penalties issues by the registries, how registries verify their data, and e-Services.
